Hello IT Pro,

Welcome to what we're calling "IT Pro Tuesday." This is where our team rounds up the best of what we’ve seen on the web and gives you a nice little summary.

We’ll send these out once a week, so keep an eye on that email. We’d love you to get involved too, so if you have any ideas about what you’d like covered, let us know.

We’re going to put together a list every tuesday of the IT items we've found that got us excited. In most cases, we don’t have any affiliation with these products. (This is about getting the best information to our readers, not earning affiliate income.) In those few cases where we are affiliated, we’ll make sure you know up front. Now that that’s all out of the way, let’s get to it!

mRemoteNG

mRemoteNG is mRemote updated for the new age. It’s a tool that has aged like a fine wine. It’s free and makes managing remote connections a breeze. Our reader, Oliviamcc, believes that it’s far better than Citrix, Putty (SSH), RDC and so on. After checking the tool ourselves, we have to say we agree. It’s open source, supports multiple protocols and is well-designed.

50 UNIX / Linux Sysadmin Tutorials

These tutorials are well thought out and cover useful topics.  If you’ve been battling to get to grips with UNIX or Linux, bookmark this page of tutorials.

MS Exchange Guru

MS Exchange Guru is proof that we have some really clever teammates. The site is managed by a friend and someone who has been instrumental in helping us overcome some of the exchange issues we had when starting out. If you need to know anything about exchange and email, bookmark this site.

The Effective Executive

How about some food for thought? Are you efficient or effective? What’s the difference? Efficiency means you’re doing things the right way. Effectiveness means you’re doing the right things. Are there processes you’re following now that are efficient rather than effective?

A lot of companies do things the “right” way. It looks great when the auditors turn up. Unfortunately, processes can become ingrained, even after better ways to do things have been established.

Take a look at “The Effective Executive” by Peter Drucker and find out how you can start doing the right things to improve productivity and performance.

A Quote to Wrap Things Up

“Passwords are like underwear. You shouldn’t leave them out where people can see them. You should change them regularly. And you shouldn’t loan them out to strangers.”

Have a fantastic week. If you’ve got any thoughts on what we’ve just covered, let us know in the comments. We’re waiting to hear from you!

Thanks,

Graham | CEO | EveryCloud

P.S. A little note about me and EveryCloud.

EveryCloud’s highest goal is to provide value to IT Departments—and I feel fortunate to be its CEO. While I do love tech, it’s not my "real" background. So IT Pro Tuesday will be a mixture of my thoughts, the recommendations of our team and customers, along with insights gleaned from discussion forums among experts.
