Hello IT Pro,
Are you finding our IT Pro Tuesday posts interesting and useful? If so, please forward a copy to anyone in your circle who might also find the tips useful.
Now, back to our scheduled blogpost. We’ve put another work week behind us, so it’s time for IT Pro Tuesday. As usual, we need to say that we’re not affiliated with any of the brands mentioned below unless explicitly stated otherwise.
GFI TechTalk
What we like about GFI TechTalk is that you’ll always find something interesting there. You’ll learn about all the latest advances in sysadmin and what the experts think of them. You’ll also find some useful free tools and interesting insights.
MailFlow Monitor
For those of you that don’t know, this is a tool that EveryCloud developed to identify any bottlenecks in your email flow. If it finds one, you get an email to let you know straight away. We’ve kept it free because it’s so useful we'd like everyone to be able to have it. Adjust the settings to suit yourself – what kind of delay there should be and what bounce alerts matter the most to you. You’ll have things up and running smoothly before your clients even notice that there’s an issue.
The Practice of Cloud System Administration
Or, as the full title reads, The Practice of Cloud System Administration: DevOps and SRE Practices for Web Services, Volume 2, is our book of the week. It covers everything you need to know about cloud computing. It draws on examples from some of the biggest names in the industry like Etsy, Google, Netflix, and Amazon so you can see the real-life applications of the concepts covered in the book. It explains the very latest DevOps/SRE strategies in a practical, easy-to-follow manner. It also gives you tips on how to assess how effective your team is.
JuiceSSH
The number of outstanding free tools out there is amazing, but JuiceSSH is the one that got us excited this week. It is an intuitive Terminal client for Android. You’ll get support for Local Shell, SSH, Telnet, and Mosh. It has a Terminal in full-color. It’s pretty handy. You can easily adjust the font size, and it has a full keyboard with special characters. Add plugins and import, generate, or export keys.
10 Things
10 Things is a blog aimed at IT professionals that covers techniques, strategies and a range of different technologies. Where it really excels, though, is in presenting the information. Each post consists of concise 10-point lists, so you don’t have to waste time to get the basic information you want.
Well, that’s it for this week. Have a fantastic week, and be sure to let us know what tips you find useful.
