IT Pro Tuesday #202

Welcome back to IT Pro Tuesday!

We are very excited to talk with April Dunnam - the Power Platform Advocacy Team Lead at Microsoft. April shared with Andy Syrewicze how easy it is with the Power Platform to build business solutions and apps with Low code or No code, and more. Watch / listen on the SysAdmin DOJO or on your favorite podcast player.

We're looking for cool tips and tools we can share with the community... those that help you do your job better and more easily. Please reply with your latest finds, so we can help others benefit from your experience.

As always, we’re updating the full list on our website here. Enjoy.

But on with this week's tools...! Here are the most-interesting items that have come across our desks, laptops and phones this week. Hornetsecurity has no known affiliation with any of these unless we explicitly state otherwise.

A Free Tool

etl2pcapng allows you to view ndiscap packet captures with Wireshark, thus overcoming the Windows use of etl files intended for ETW-centric tools like Microsoft Message Analyzer. NotAnExpert2020 explains, it "converts a netsh trace start/stop trace into something wireshark can read."

A Website

Cyber is a site from Vice Media Group that focuses on current issues and news related to cybersecurity. Features guest technology reporters who bring in interesting, relevant stories that will both hold your interest and help keep you informed about what's happening in the field. Kindly suggested by links234.

Another Free Tool

KeePass is an open-source password manager that allows you to generate and securely store strong random passwords for each site or application. KeePass databases are encrypted with AES-256, ChaCha20 and Twofish, which provide the best security available in the industry. Our thanks for this recommendation go to MattF.

Another Website

End of Life is a searchable database of the applications, operating systems, programming languages and protocols with a registered product life cycle. It's a great way to quickly check when a product intends to end or limit support. Our appreciation goes to tetchytomcat for suggesting this one.

One More Free Tool

Jellyfin allows you to collect, manage and stream media from your own server. View from a web browser, Roku app, Android, iOS (including AirPlay), Android TV, Fire TV device, Chromecast or existing Kodi installation. Best of all, there's no tracking, phone-home or central servers collecting your data. Bonn93 appreciates this "killer bit of software, and GPU transcoding is free."

P.S. Bonus Free Tools

Directory Lister is a fast way to expose the contents of any web-accessible folder for users to browse and share. Installation takes less than a minute and requires zero configuration. gbarnick explains, “[It] makes it easy to have a repository of tools, downloads etc. within an intranet or publicly, if necessary."

Capirca uses common definitions of networks, services and high-level policy files to generate network ACLs. This multi-platform solution was originally developed by Google for their own use but is now open source. rankinrez finds it a good way to document firewall rules and objects.

Have a fantastic week and as usual, let us know any comments.
