Hello IT Pro,

Happy Tuesday! This week we're looking for your favorite tech video channels to share with the community. Please leave a comment with your suggestions, and we'll be featuring them in the coming weeks.

As always, we’re updating the full list on our website here. Enjoy.

But on with this week's tools...! Here are the most-interesting items that have come across our desks, laptops, and phones this week. As always, EveryCloud has no known affiliation with any of these unless we explicitly state otherwise.

A Blog

FoxDeploy is a Powershell and automation blog by Stephen Owen, a Microsoft Systems Consultant who specializes in PowerShell tool-making and process automation. Focuses on Enterprise Client Management through System Center and Active Directory. Kindly suggested by sysadminsuperman.

A Website

Practical 365  is a website chock full of expert, actionable advice for Microsoft products. Topics include Office 365, Exchange, PowerShell, Azure, SharePoint and more. Provides news, tips and tutorials that are easy to understand and apply to real-world scenarios with an aim toward optimizing the Microsoft experience. Another great recommendation from sysadminsuperman.

A Free Tool

SpectX is a parser and query engine for analyzing logs across multiple local and remote sources. Enables analysts to get quick statistical insights without waiting for the data to be indexed or worrying about volume limits. Be aware, free version is only for "Personal, non-commercial" use. Recommended by lii5a as "a log analyzer that skips indexing/ingestion and creates a virtual view from raw (compressed) text files and blobs stored in a log server, AWS, Azure, Google Storage, Hadoop or JDBC-databases."

A Tip

Another keyboard shortcut, this one compliments of nimdaisadmin:
CTRL + ALT + Insert simulates CTRL + ALT + DEL for VMware VMs.

Another Free Tool

Cygwin is a large collection of GNU and open-source tools that provide a Unix-like environment and command-line interface for Microsoft Windows. The DLL provides substantial POSIX API functionality. For native integration of Windows-based applications, data and other system resources with applications, software tools and data in the Unix-like environment. Suggested by lescompa, who tells us, "If I need Xterm, etc., I would use Cygwin."

P.S. Bonus Free Tools

Mouse Jiggler is a small system tray tool that simulates mouse movement, which can be useful in certain situations. garaks_tailor finds it helpful when working on "automation using software robots... as those who make the GPOs keep forgetting to spare my machines, as do windows updates."

Notepad++ is an excellent open-source Windows text editor. It offers regular expression support, syntax highlighting and a tabbed interface. If you're moving between machines, checkout Notepad++ Portable, which you can run from a share or a USB drive. This one was recommended by our own Matt Frye.

Have a fantastic week and as usual, let me know any comments.
